Heat treatment of feeds before pelleting increases their mechanical and nutritional parameters, including digestibility and absorption, which is of the utmost importance to livestock producers. Sterilized feeds are able to absorb a greater amount of fat and have a higher degree of starch gelatinization. Such feeds can be obtained in a sterilizer (homogenizer), in which the holding time at a precisely defined temperature can be freely adjusted.

During the sterilization process, the feed is lumped. The sterilizer is equipped with a set of knives that break up the lumps, while the Stabilizing Screw Extractor (SSE) restores the feed to its loose form. This is necessary to ensure the optimal energy load of the granulator.
